J. I. F. Vojta came from Bohemia and was a contemporary of the famous Heinrich I. F. Biber. The suite “Partia amabilis” for two violins (violin and viola) and basso continuo (ca. 1680) has come down to us in a collection “Rost Manuscript” (BnF, Rés. Vm7 673). The first violin part is written in the scordatura tuning of b, f#’, b’, e’’. The second violin (viola) part is in the scordatura tuning of e, b, e’, b’. In the original part-books we find the following indication : for the sake of charming effect, the second violin part must be played on a “Brazzen”. (i.e. viola da braccio)
In this new edition the original scordature notations in the violin part were kept. A version of both parts in conventional notation, i.e. not in scordatura, is also provided.
