Johann Baptist Wendling (1723–1797) was active as a flute virtuoso in the highly renowned court orchestra of the Electoral Palatinate in Mannheim and Munich and was one of the most important musicians of the Mannheim School.
The present G-Major concerto, which Wendling himself undoubtedly performed in the Mannheim palace, weds unpretentious grace to the virtuosically brilliant features characteristic of the Mannheim school.
This edition is based on the existing manuscript part-books, no score was available. The orchestration consists of solo flute and strings with basso continuo : Violin I and II, Viola and Basso which is playable on instruments such as cello, double bass and/or harpsichord.
