Battle music was a popular instrumental genre in the seventeenth century that musically recreated scenes of warfare. Biber’s Battalia is a famous example, but composers like Clamor Heinrich Abel also made entertaining contributions to this fashionable genre. Abel’s Battaille stands out because it also features a ciaccona. A delightfully eclectic example of seventeenth-century descriptive music.
