Toshiyuki Bamba: Snow - Odor of time for Violin solo
Composed in 1991 / 2002
This piece for solo violin is therefore to be understood as a continuation, although not necessarily in a nostalgic sense. Rather, it suggests a feeling that seeks to resist the inexorable flow of time, or an emotion that suddenly surges from the subconscious, like a redolence.
“Snow” in the title has a similar meaning. When snow quietly wafts down by night and covers a landscape we are not unmoved; its sound conveys a sign from the unconscious. (from the prologue by Toshiyuki Bamba)
‘’Snow - Odor of Time for violin solo’’ was received the best prize in the Music Today (leaded by T. Takemitsu) composition contest of 1993.
