Johann Sebastioan Bach: Sonata in D-Dur für Traversflöte, Violine und Bsso continuo
Re-transcription after the Sonata für Viola da gamba or Violino and obligato Cembalo, BWV 1028
ISMN
Johann Sebastian Bach’s Sonata in D Major for viola da gamba and obbligato harpsichord (BWV 1028) is a well-known and frequently played work. Less known, on the other hand, is a version of this sonata for violin and obbligato harpsichord. It has come down to us in three manuscript sources: a score and two sets of parts. Both sets of parts are based on the score. All three sources stem from the same scribe and were made around 1800 – thus long after Bach’s death. Nevertheless, they transmit – in addition to several scribal errors –somewhat simplified readings, which in turn presumably trace back to an even earlier version. Judging from the individual ranges of the parts, the original version was possibly scored for transverse flute, violin, and basso continuo.
The present retranscription for this scoring represents a welcome addition to the two other Trio Sonatas BWV 1038 and BWV 1079, no. 3.
