Guillaume Gommar Kennis: Six Sonates à Violon seul et B.c., Op. 3, Band I
Louvain, ca. 1750 (Band I & II)
Guillaume Gommar Kennis (* Lier near Antwerp 1717, † Leuven1789) must have been a violin virtuoso. Nevertheless his name was completely forgotten after his death. He held the position of the Maître de chapelle at the St. Peter’s Church in Leuven for 40 years.
The violin sonatas of Kennis are written in the styles of Somis and Tartini and technically extraordinarily demanding for violin works of that time in the Southern Netherlands.
